
Head of Digital Assets
Alexander Thoma is Head of Digital Assets at PostFinance AG, a role he has held since July 2022. In this position, he is responsible for all products and initiatives in the area of digital assets and represents PostFinance both internally and externally in this area. He is a member of expert groups at the Swiss Blockchain Federation (SBF), the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA), and the Asset Management Association Switzerland (AMAS), and is a founding member of Digital Assets Switzerland. Since March 2025, he has also served as a Lecturer at HWZ Hochschule für Wirtschaft Zürich, teaching in the CAS NextGen Banking & AI programme.
Prior to PostFinance, Thoma co-founded Alethena (later Equility AG), a fintech startup in the blockchain space, where he served as CFO. Earlier in his career he held positions at a macro hedge fund specialising in emerging and frontier market debt, in Audit at PwC, and in Risk Management at Credit Suisse. He also served as an Assistant at the Department of Banking & Finance at the University of Zurich. Thoma holds a PhD (Dr. oec.) in Financial Economics from the University of Zurich, a Master's degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Zurich, and the Chartered Digital Asset Analyst (CDAA) designation. His research areas include currencies (both fiat and crypto), portfolio management, and behavioural asset management.
Deputy Head Digital Assets
David Lips is Deputy Head Digital Assets at PostFinance, a position he has held since July 2022. In this role, his stated responsibilities include developing and implementing the corporate digital asset strategy and serving as customer journey owner for crypto trading.
Lips has been at PostFinance since September 2016, progressing through several roles. He served as Business Analyst from September 2016 to June 2018, then as Robotic Process Automation Manager from July 2018 to July 2020, working across domains including identity access management and dormant assets using tools such as BluePrism and Splunk. From August 2020 to November 2021 he was an ICT Requirements Engineer, with product ownership across online banking and payments. He then moved into the role of Innovation Manager Digital Assets from March 2021 to July 2022, focused on research, business case development, and intrapreneurship, before assuming his current position. Outside PostFinance, he has served as Finanzchef at Holzwerkstatt Oase GmbH since July 2011, responsible for bookkeeping at a family-run carpentry business, and as Gesellschafter und Geschäftsführer at physio bewegt gmbh since June 2020. He holds a MSc in Business Administration from the University of Bern and holds the CDAA® certification.
Innovation Manager
Florian Baumann is a Business Analyst at PostFinance within the Consulting department, a position he has held since September 2022. His LinkedIn profile identifies him additionally as an Innovation Manager with a focus on DLT and Web3, operating across VNTR and PostFinance.
Prior to PostFinance, Baumann worked as a Business Analyst Operations Supply Chain at Cleveron AG from August 2021 to September 2022. Before that, he served on the board of VSBFH, the student association of Berner Fachhochschule, where he was responsible for campus development from May 2020 to July 2021. Earlier in his career he worked as a Polymechaniker at NOBAG Nobs Engineering AG and completed both an apprenticeship and a subsequent professional role as Polymechaniker at Rychiger AG between 2013 and 2018, where he worked in the trades department. His career history reflects a transition from precision mechanical engineering into operations and business analysis roles, culminating in his current position in financial services.
