Dan Morehead

Dan Morehead is the Founder and Managing Partner of Pantera Capital, an institutional asset manager focused exclusively on Bitcoin, other digital currencies, and companies in the blockchain technology space. He founded Pantera in 2003 as a global macro hedge fund before pivoting the firm toward cryptocurrency and blockchain investments. Pantera launched the first U.S. institutional Bitcoin fund in 2013, when Bitcoin was priced at $65, and subsequently launched the first exclusively blockchain-focused venture fund. In 2017, Pantera was the first firm to offer a pre-auction ICO fund. The firm manages assets across three strategies: passive, hedge, and venture. Morehead has also served as Chairman of Bitstamp and as a board member at BitPesa (now AZA Finance). He joined the board of Figure in March 2024.

Prior to founding Pantera, Morehead served as Chief Financial Officer and Head of Macro Trading at Tiger Management under Julian Robertson. Before that, he was Global Head of Foreign Exchange Options at Deutsche Bank in London, where he held the role from 1995. He also worked at Bankers Trust as a portfolio manager for global macro funds and held a senior derivatives trading role in Tokyo. In 2000, he co-founded Atriax, an electronic foreign exchange trading platform operating across New York, London, and Tokyo, which closed in 2002. Morehead began his finance career at Goldman Sachs in 1987 as a trader in mortgage-backed securities. He graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and was awarded the Carmichael Prize for his undergraduate thesis.
