Tom Zschach

Chief Innovation Officer

Tom Zschach is a former Chief Innovation Officer at SWIFT, a role he held from January 2020 to April 2026, where he was responsible for driving innovation across the company and collaborating with the SWIFT community and partners to create new growth opportunities. Since April 2026, he has been operating independently as an architect and advisor in trust infrastructure for institutional finance and AI. At SWIFT, his public work on digital assets included leading the organisation's position on CBDC interoperability: he has stated that facilitating interoperability between different CBDCs will be critical to realising their potential, and warned that without coordination the global CBDC landscape risks fragmenting into isolated digital systems. SWIFT, in collaboration with Capgemini, conducted experiments to interlink domestic CBDC networks for cross-border payments, work conducted during his tenure. He also articulated SWIFT's distinction between permissionless digital assets, with which financial institutions do not typically engage due to their unregulated status, and permissioned digital assets such as CBDCs and tokenised assets, which regulated institutions including SWIFT were actively exploring.

Prior to SWIFT, Zschach served as Chief Information Officer at CLS Group from September 2014 to October 2019, where he sat on the Executive Management Committee. Before that, he was CIO at LCH.Clearnet from July 2011 to July 2014, contributing to the firm's technology strategy in clearing and settlement. Earlier in his career, he spent over twenty years in investment banking, including roles at Bank of America Merrill Lynch as Head of Rate and Currencies Technology, and at Barclays Capital as Managing Director in Technology and Global Head of Equities, Prime Brokerage and Client Technology. He holds a degree in Computer Science and Finance from California State University and an Executive MBA from TRIUM.

Wim Raymaekers

Wim Raymaekers is Digital Assets Strategy Director at Swift, a role he held from January 2025 to April 2026, focused on extending Swift's capabilities to new digital rails using distributed ledger technology and facilitating banks' movement of digital assets across interoperable networks. In this capacity, he led a coalition of 40+ banks along an MVP and strategic roadmap, and participated in an ECB workshop exploring CBDCs for unmet B2B payment needs. He ran DLT proof-of-concepts with R3 in 2019 and led what was at the time the largest industry project for real-time intraday liquidity optimisation, built on Hyperledger, in 2018. He also authored a paper in 2014 on Bitcoin, examining its disruption potential, challenges, and opportunities.
