Markus Abbassi

Markus Abbassi is Head Digital Assets and Member of the Investment Committee at Banque Richelieu Switzerland, a position he has held since February 2022. In this role, he is responsible for defining and implementing the bank's digital asset strategy, obtaining regulatory approvals from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, and developing the digital asset product offering. His remit spans custody, brokerage, staking services, and portfolio-based digital asset investment solutions. He also manages adaptation of risk, compliance, and operational frameworks, and leads employee training on anti-money laundering, KYC, and Travel Rule compliance.

Prior to Banque Richelieu Switzerland, Abbassi led the tokenization strategy at Sygnum Bank, where he was responsible for developing the primary issuance platform Desygnate and the trading venue SygnEx. Earlier in his career, he co-founded Alethena, a blockchain company focused on infrastructure for blockchain-based trading of Swiss registered shares. He is co-author of the book "Digital Asset Services in Banken", which addresses how financial institutions can integrate digital asset services into existing banking infrastructure. He also contributes to the field as a lecturer and speaker.
