Matt Green is Partner, Head of Blockchain and Digital Assets and Technology Disputes at Lawrence Stephens, where he leads the firm's practice in complex and multi-jurisdictional disputes involving blockchain technology and digital assets. His work covers crypto asset recovery for individuals and businesses following hacks, scams, or misappropriations — including cases where wrongdoers are unknown or out of reach — as well as contractual disputes with digital assets at their core. He has experience obtaining urgent injunctions including worldwide freezing orders, search orders (Anton Piller), and specific disclosure orders.

Green led on the seminal case AA v Persons Unknown [2019] EWHC 3556 (Comm), which confirmed that Bitcoin and other crypto assets constitute "property" at common law. His practice also covers commercial litigation and intellectual property disputes involving digital assets, including matters relating to music, content, art, trade marks, and copyright. He has recovered millions of pounds worth of digital assets for clients. In Chambers and Partners' FinTech Guide 2025, he is recognised in Crypto-Asset Disputes. He holds the additional role of Chief Legal Strategist (NED) at M2 Recovery Ltd, and serves as Chair of the Digital Assets Working Group at techUK. He also hosts the In Early Podcast. Lawrence Stephens announced his appointment as Director and Head of Technology Disputes and Head of Blockchain and Digital Assets prior to his current Partner role.
