Matt McAfee

Matt McAfee is Head of Digital Assets, Senior Executive Vice President at M&T Bank, a position he has held since June 2025. He sits within the Enterprise Platforms Division, where his mandate is focused on digital assets. In April 2026 he participated as a panelist at an American Banker Virtual Summit on the topic of on-chain payments, specifically addressing how banks can apply risk, compliance, fraud, and identity verification capabilities to make on-chain payments enterprise-grade.

McAfee joined M&T in 2004 through the bank's Executive Associate program. Prior to his current role, he served as Assistant CFO from January to June 2025, working with the bank's CFO to oversee Treasury, Controllers Group, FP&A, Tax, Strategy & Corporate Development, and Financial Modeling. Before that, he spent seven years as Head of Affluent Wealth Markets at Wilmington Trust, overseeing 375+ employees and $30B+ of client assets across M&T's broker dealer, Wilmington Advisors @ M&T, and Wilmington Trust's Signature Services team. From 2015 to 2018 he served as President of Wilmington Trust's Institutional Retirement Services business, managing or administering over $45B of client assets in qualified and non-qualified retirement plans. He also held the role of Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Wealth & Institutional Services Division, and earlier in his career served as a Business Line CFO for M&T's Business Banking, Mortgage, and Customer Asset Management divisions, and as Director of Financial Systems and Director of Management Accounting within the Finance Division. Prior to M&T, he worked at Electronic Data Systems and Franklin Covey in finance, operations, and supply chain roles. He holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and a BS in Finance from the University of Utah, and has completed executive education at the Wharton School and the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. He serves on the boards of Wilmington Trust Company and Wilmington Trust NA.
