Micah Smith is Vice President, Digital Assets at SIFMA, a position he has held since January 2026. In this role, he supports industry efforts to shape regulatory and legislative frameworks, develop best practices, and explore how tokenization, payment stablecoins, and emerging technologies can enhance U.S. securities markets. He also serves as a contact for SIFMA's Digital Assets Committee, which guides the organization's engagement on digital assets issues through common policy positions and regulatory and legislative advocacy. In March 2026, he co-authored a publication titled "Regulating Wallet Providers: Focus on Functions, Not Technology."

Prior to joining SIFMA, Smith served as a Secondment Advisor at the Bank for International Settlements Innovation Hub from July 2023 to December 2025, based in London, where he was involved in fintech innovation projects focused on digital assets. During that period, he led the Meridian FX and Keystone projects, which examined how distributed ledger technology and RTGS systems can interoperate to support improved settlement workflows and analytics. Before the BIS, he worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from February 2022 to July 2023, where he held the role of Clearing and Settlement Principal within the Markets team, leading robotic process automation efforts including developing business justifications, proof of concepts, and solutions architecture.
