Nicolas Duvinage is a Colonel in the Gendarmerie nationale, currently serving as adviser on scientific innovations and disruptive technologies in the office of the Director General of the Gendarmerie nationale (DGGN). He has published on the subject of innovation within the Gendarmerie in the Revue Défense Nationale (December 2024), examining how field personnel and specialist units contribute to operational innovation.

His career has combined field command with successive specialist roles. He served as deputy then head of the digital forensics department (INL) at the Institut de Recherche Criminelle de la Gendarmerie Nationale (IRCGN), succeeding Éric Freyssinet in that position. He subsequently held a post at the Office central de lutte contre les atteintes à l'environnement et à la santé publique (Oclaesp), where he handled the judicial phase of the PIP breast implant case and the Spanghero horsemeat affair. He then directed the C3N (Centre de lutte contre les criminalités numériques) in Pontoise, focused on cybercrime including tracking radicalised individuals and darknet arms trafficking, and supported the development of GIP ACYMA. He also served as vice-president of the Forensic Information Technologies Working Group (FIT-WG) of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI) and as a founding member of the Association Francophone des Spécialistes en Investigations Numériques (AFSIN). He has represented France in specialised meetings at Europol and Interpol. Duvinage is a graduate of the École Polytechnique (class of 1995), holds a university diploma in law and criminal sciences from the University of Sceaux, and a specialised master's degree in network design and architecture from the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Paris (ENST).
