Peter Oakes

Peter Oakes is a Non-Exec Director Chairman – Fintech, Digital Assets, Finserv (Strategic Adviser Investor) at Peter Oakes, operating across Ireland and internationally. He currently serves regulated fintech and finserv firms as Chair of the Board, Chair of Remuneration Committee, and member of Audit, Internal Audit and Risk Committees. He advises on fintech, insurtech, DeFi, crypto, GDPR, and regtech, including EU establishment matters. Since November 2025, he has also served as Advisory Chair and Chief Legal Officer at Periti AI, an AI start-up. He founded fintech and regulatory initiatives including FintechIreland.com, CompliReg.com, and FinTechUK.com.

His prior executive roles include Board Director and CRO at Bank of America Merchant Services, where he established the EU business, and Director of Enforcement and Financial Crime at the Central Bank of Ireland, a Senior Leadership Team appointment made in the context of post-crisis regulatory reform. He also advised the Governor and Deputy Governor of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency on corporate strategy, banking vision, risk-based supervision, enforcement, and financial crime. Earlier regulatory experience includes roles at the UK Financial Services Authority as an Enforcement Lawyer and at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission as a Senior Officer. He has worked in-house as counsel, compliance officer, and executive and non-executive director across regulated businesses. Chambers and Partners listed him as a Band 1 Fintech consultant in 2020 and 2021. He has also appeared in the Fintech50, the Fintech 15, and the 100 Most Powerful People in Tech in Ireland.
