Roberto Grasso is a Senior Specialist, Artificial Intelligence & Crypto Assets at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, a position he has held since January 2025 within the Division of Enforcement's Cyber & Emerging Technologies Unit (CETU). In this role, he serves as a subject matter expert and advisor on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency technical matters, including emerging industry trends, AI-based fraud detection tools, governance, data privacy and security, and system audits and monitoring. He develops and implements investigative methodologies for AI-driven and cryptocurrency investigations and conducts analyses of high-profile investigations to assess compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Prior to this appointment, Grasso served as Branch Chief in the SEC's Office of Risk Strategy, Office of Intelligence Research from June 2024 to January 2025, where he led a team of examiners, financial engineers, and analysts to develop a national risk-based examination plan and Enforcement referrals. He led national initiatives and industry research on the use of artificial intelligence, producing examination initiative and surveillance reports, exam tools and techniques, and agency-wide presentations. In that capacity, he also assisted with the SEC's investigation into Rimar Capital entities and owner Itai Liptz, which resulted in charges for false and misleading statements about the use of artificial intelligence in trading — a case concluded in October 2024. His total professional experience spans approximately 27 years.
