Sam ten Cate is MD, Head of Digital Asset Strategy at State Street Investment Management, a role he has held since October 2025. He leads the firm's digital asset strategy, focusing on advancing toward a wallet-enabled future of digital finance, reaching digitally native investors, and expanding access for traditional investors to the digital asset industry and decentralized finance. He has authored work on tokenized money market funds, examining how blockchain-based fund share records can enable near real-time settlement, intraday collateral mobility, and onchain cash movement without changing the underlying fund structure or risk profile.

Prior to his current role, ten Cate held leadership positions within State Street across Investor Services Product, Global Technology Services, and State Street Digital. In those roles he led initiatives applying generative AI and blockchain to custody, tokenization, transfer agency, and fund administration. Before joining State Street, he spent a decade at Promontory Financial Group, an IBM company, as a management consultant advising financial institutions and working with regulators including the Fed, OCC, SEC, CFPB, NYDFS, and ECB. His areas of focus there included cloud, digital assets, AI, bank chartering, and risk management across global banks, regional institutions, and technology-native firms. At Promontory, he was involved in the development and launch of digital asset and tokenization products bridging traditional finance with the digital asset industry.
