Director, head of digital currency institutional arrangement group
Kazuki Iwao is Director, Head of Digital Currency Institutional Arrangement Group at the Bank of Japan, a position he has held since June 2025. In this role, he leads the digital currency institutional arrangement group within the bank's Payment and Settlement Systems Department. Prior to this appointment, he served as Director in a general management capacity from July 2020, having previously held the positions of Deputy Director and Associate Director between 2017 and 2020.
Earlier in his career at the Bank of Japan, Iwao focused on off-site monitoring and examination of major Japanese banks, assessing their risks and profitability. He also analyzed the effects of Qualitative and Quantitative Monetary Easing Policy with Yield Curve Control on the bank's balance sheet, and served as Lead Inspector, Policy Planner, Policy Coordinator, and Economist across roles spanning from 2008. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from Hitotsubashi University and a Master of Business Administration from the USC IBEAR MBA Program at the University of Southern California, which he completed in 2021.
