Mike Alonso is Head of Tokenisation at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), a position he has held since October 2023. In this role he is focused on building next-generation financial market infrastructures and designing the future of digital money. Prior to assuming this title, he served as Principal Architect for CBDC and Payments at the BIS Innovation Hub from April 2021 to May 2024, where he was designing and developing digital money solutions. He has spoken publicly on the application of blockchain technology to humanitarian finance, including participation in a 2024 Point Zero Forum workshop on the creation of a UN Digital Wallet with embedded identity management for aid distribution to displaced persons and refugees.

Before joining the BIS, Alonso was Lead Solution Architect at ConsenSys from January 2019 to April 2021, where he led the design, development, and delivery of blockchain-based solutions across use cases including payment networks, decentralised identity, smart contract architecture, digital asset management, trade finance, and government applications. He also held a Lead Technical Project Manager role within ConsenSys's Energy group for six months in 2018. Earlier, he served as COO at Pactum IO, LLC from 2017 to 2018, overseeing development of a smart contract platform, and as an Acquisitions Officer in the US Air Force from 2011 to 2016. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Himalayan University, completed between 2018 and 2021.

Lucy Wong

Advisor (lead on blockchain, digital assets, green finance, digital twin, AI)

Lucy Wong is Advisor (Lead on Digital Assets, Stablecoins, AI, Digital Twin) at the Bank for International Settlements Innovation Hub, based in Hong Kong SAR on secondment from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). She has held this role since June 2022.

Wong led the completion of Project Dynamo, which developed a prototype for using stablecoin in a supply chain setting. Her responsibilities on the project included ideation, vendor selection, contract negotiation, project management, and authoring the published report. Project Dynamo received the Trade Facilitation Innovation Award from the Asian Development Bank and UNESCAP. The project involved collaboration with the HKMA, Bank Negara Malaysia, Bank Indonesia, Bank of Thailand, the International Chamber of Commerce, the World Economic Forum, the IMF, and the World Trade Organization. She also led collaboration with the HKMA on Project Ensemble, which explored cross-border use cases of wholesale CBDC and tokenised deposits. She conducted and published research on wholesale use cases and adoption challenges of CBDCs, stablecoins, and tokenised deposits, drawing on interviews with 47 organisations including banks, payment companies, stablecoin issuers, infrastructure providers, law firms, international organisations, and academic institutions. She currently leads Project Danu, which aims to develop a digital twin framework for managing climate-related financial risks, and is part of the core team on Project Noor, focused on developing a supervisory tool for AI model explainability. Wong has spoken at the ICC Future Trade Forum, BIS Innovation Summit, Hong Kong FinTech Week, Financial Times Crypto and Digital Assets Summit, and the Global Trade Review conference, among others. She is a regular guest lecturer on the Cambridge Judge Business School Digital Assets for Regulators programme.
