Javier Alvarez is Managing Director, Forensics – Digital Asset Leader at BDO USA, based in New York. He has held this role since June 2024. He specializes in asset tracing across both digital assets and traditional fiat currencies, with hands-on experience using blockchain analytics tools including Chainalysis, Elliptic, TRM Labs, ComplyAdvantage, Acuant (IdentityMind), Notabene, and Jumio. His practice also covers open-source intelligence (OSINT) and compliance and transaction monitoring tools.

Alvarez has over two decades of experience across investigations of financial fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act matters, risk assessments, due diligence, anti-money laundering, and regulatory support under BSA/AML/OFAC frameworks. He has led matters involving financial and securities fraud, embezzlement, Ponzi schemes, circumvention of internal controls, purchase price disputes, misappropriation of corporate assets, and bankruptcy disputes. His industry background spans fintech, media and entertainment, professional services, and financial services. He has worked on high-profile cases across the United States and in countries across Latin America, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia. He has advised SEC registrants and privately owned companies on asset tracing and the reconstruction of complex financial transactions, and has presented findings to the SEC, the U.S. Department of Justice, and FinCEN. He holds CPA, CFE, and CKC credentials.
